Glowing skin, sparkling eyes, and a healthy smile aren't all gifts from the gene pool. Looking and feeling good begins with the foods you eat every day. Try incorporating a few of these hidden "hero" nutrients and foods to care for your body from the inside out!

Oolong and green tea
If you can't brush after a meal, sip oolong or green tea. Both teas have been shown to reduce the amount of plaque-causing bacteria in your mouth.

What you get:
Polyphenols (astringents and antioxidants) that help prevent the formation of cavity-promoting bacteria

Sweet potato
A sweet source of nutrition, sweet potatoes have healing properties from their high amounts of antioxidants and vitamins. They have been shown to help reduce the severity of osteoarthritis and asthma and help prevent diabetic heart disease and colon cancer. Learn more about The World's Healthiest Foods and start adding more delicious and nutritious foods to your diet.

What you get:
Beta-carotene, vitamin C, manganese (which helps blood break down amino acids and produce energy), and dietary fiber

Vitamin B6
This vitamin helps to break down amino acids for new cell formation and reduces the risk of coronary heart disease. A lack of vitamin B6 can lead to fatigue, eczema, and even seizures.

Where you can find it:
Yellow fin tuna, bananas, cod, salmon, and sweet potatoes

Alliums
You know... garlic, leeks, and onions! The pungent odor of garlic doesn't just ward off vampires; the smelly sulfur compound helps reduce the risk of heart disease and sustain healthy vision. Onions and leeks can lower bad cholesterol levels and raise the good HDL cholesterol levels for better heart health.

What you get:
Vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin B6, selenium (an essential dietary mineral that helps activate antioxidants), manganese, and chromium (a mineral that can help improve glucose tolerance and lower insulin levels)

Omega-3
If your joints are feeling a bit rusty, go ahead and have a tuna sandwich. Tuna is packed with omega-3s, unsaturated fatty acids that can help reduce joint stiffness and pain. Omega-3 has even been found to help reduce the risk of heart disease and stroke.

Where you can find it:
Flaxseed nuts, walnuts, cabbage, salmon, soybeans, halibut, tofu, and winter squash
