If you find your days are getting increasingly hectic, take a moment to put things in perspective. Daily meditation relaxes your body and mind, and helps you deal with whatever gets thrown your way. Try this routine to get started.

1. Set a time. You may be more focused in the morning, but have more time in the evening. Pick a time that's right for you and commit to it on a regular basis.

2. Choose a quiet spot. Reserve a place just for meditating that's free of noise, disruptions, kids, and other distractions.

3. Decide on the duration. You don't have to meditate for hours to get results. A quick 10- or 20-minute session may be all you need to refresh your senses. At first, you might find it hard to sit for long periods, but with practice, you'll be able to increase your meditation time.

4. Maintain good posture. Since you're more likely to fall asleep when you're lying down, sit in a comfortable position, but keep your back straight. Use a chair, or sit on a cushion or against the wall for added support. Then soften each part of your body, working your way down from your ears through your toes. Releasing the tension in your body will allow you to clear your mind more easily.

5. Notice your breathing. Observe how your breath enters and leaves your nostrils, but don't try to control it. With each breath, feel the gentle rise and fall of your chest.

6. Clear your mind. This is one of the hardest things about meditating, especially when you're thinking about home, work, or family. If you find your mind wandering, simply take a moment to refocus. Don't worry about how many times it happens—concentrate on breathing and try again.
